In Jeremiah 35, God calls forth the example of the Rechabites, a family who had observed the commands of their father faithfully for hundreds of years. He asks Judah why they would not listen to their Father. In Jeremiah 36, Baruch writes the words of Jeremiah upon a scroll and King Jehoiakim callously tears sections out of the scroll and tosses them into the fire.
