What Is The Bible?
The Bible claims to be the Word of God. The Bible, therefore, is our complete and perfect guide from earth to heaven. Not only has the Bible been given to us by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, it has been faithfully preserved for us down through the centuries by the providential hand of God. This is the claim and the promise of God as indicated by the Scriptures cited in the outline. Thus, there is no need for continuous revelation or latter day revelation, and any and all teaching must be measured by the Word of God, the Bible. If any document or teaching presents more than what the Bible teaches, then it goes beyond the doctrine of Christ and has the wrath of heaven against it. If a document or teaching leaves out any of the teaching of the Bible, then it contains too little, and brings God’s wrath against it. If any document or teaching contains only what the Bible teaches, then it is not needed as we already have the Bible!
The Bible warns that in order to please God, we must love the Lord and be obedient to His holy word, the Bible (Deut. 30:15-20; Matt. 7:21-29; Heb. 5:8-9; James 1:21-25). By obeying the gospel and remaining faithful to God, we will enjoy eternal life with the Father (Rev. 22:14). But to go beyond Bible teaching by adding the commandments, traditions, or philosophies of men (and women) is to corrupt the Word of God and stand condemned (Gal. 1:6-9).
As the Scriptures in the outline reveal, we shall be judged by the Word of God, the Bible. It is the path of wisdom and good sense, therefore, to humble ourselves before our God and submit to His divine will for us, as it is revealed in the holy Book, the Bible.
