After the "Potter and the Clay" illustration, Jeremiah takes the leaders out to the Hinnom Valley, the spot of repeated abominations and smashes a clay jug to indicate the destruction of God's people. He then goes into the Temple to repeat the message and is accosted by Passhur the priest, arrested, and put in stocks. Jeremiah is released and rebukes Passhur but is very despondent and gives another powerful lamentation like he did in chapter 15.
