One of the paramount passages in all of the Bible regarding shepherding is Ezekiel 34. The critical failure of Israel's shepherds (her leaders) is strongly contrasted with the messianic shepherd who would lead the flock in God's ideal fashion. Our lesson connects the negative and the positive side of this message to the role, function, responsibility, and influence of elders in local congregations today.
