"For our God is a consuming fire" (Hebrews 12:29). This metaphor conveys two important and paradoxical qualities of God's nature: 1) His consuming wrath upon disobedience; and 2) His non-consuming protection of the obedient. Very interesting and thought-provoking sermon here.
