Let the Lower Lights Be Burning
Series: HymnsMany years ago, Philip P. Bliss was inspired by an illustration of Dwight L. Moody during one of his evangelistic campaigns. The illustration was of a shipwreck during a violent storm on Lake Erie. Due to the lack of lower lights on the outcroppings in the Cleveland harbor mouth, many lives were lost. Bliss's song captures the spirit of that example and speaks to the need for Christians to be the lower lights of God. The hymn will serve to complement this Bible lesson on the role of Christians as God's lower lights.
